Planning your Sri Lanka journey

Helpful answers to the questions travellers ask us most. If yours isn't here, just get in touch.

When is the best time to visit Sri Lanka?

Sri Lanka has two monsoon seasons that affect different coasts. Roughly December to April is usually the drier season for the west and south coasts and the hill country, while about May to September tends to suit the east coast and the north. The Cultural Triangle can be visited most of the year. Weather varies year to year, so we plan routes around your dates.

Do I need a visa?

Most visitors need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) or visa before arriving. Rules and fees change, so please check the official Sri Lanka Department of Immigration and Emigration ETA website (eta.gov.lk) for your nationality before you travel.

How do we get around?

Most of our journeys use a private vehicle with a driver, so you can stop where you like. Scenic train sections, such as the hill-country line, can be added where they suit your route.

Are your tours private?

Yes. We design private, tailor-made journeys for individuals, couples, families and groups. Nothing is a fixed group departure unless you ask for it.

How long should I spend in Sri Lanka?

Many travellers spend 7 to 14 nights. A week covers the Cultural Triangle and hill country or the south coast; two weeks lets you combine them at a gentler pace. See our sample itineraries for ideas.

How does the enquiry work and is there a cost to ask?

Sending an enquiry through Plan Your Journey is free and does not commit you to anything. It is a request for a personalised itinerary and quotation, not a booking. Our team prepares the quotation manually and you can review it in My Journey.

What is included in a quotation?

Each quotation is prepared for your specific journey and clearly lists what it covers, such as accommodation, transport and any activities you chose. Because every trip is different, we do not publish fixed prices.

Can you arrange specific hotels or activities?

Tell us your preferred hotel style, meal plan and the activities you would like at each place in the planner. If something is not listed, add it as a request and we will look into it.

Do you work with travel agents?

Yes. We offer destination management and ground handling in Sri Lanka for travel agents and tour operators.
