Adam's Peak

A sacred summit climbed by night for sunrise.

Climbers set off in the dark, following thousands of lit steps to the 2,243-metre summit. At the top is a footprint-shaped mark revered by Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims and Christians alike.

If the sky is clear at dawn, the peak casts a perfect triangular shadow across the clouds. The pilgrimage season runs roughly from December to May.
